ENIn July 2025 the long-awaited book by Igbal Abilov,
Fragments of Talyshi Speech I, has been published by the renowned academic publisher Lincom (Germany).
The book features manuscripts collected by the German-Russian orientalist Boris Dorn in the second half of the 19th century, which were discovered by Igbal Abilov in 2012. These materials constitute the earliest known scholarly documentation of the Northern dialect of the Talyshi language.
This volume marks the beginning of the Bibliotheca Talyshica series, issued by the Talysh National Academy (TNA). The series aims to introduce previously unpublished written monuments of the Talyshi language, as well as treatises and works by Talysh scholars from the Middle Ages to the present. It will also include newly discovered archival materials on Talyshi studies, covering disciplines such as linguistics, archaeology, geography, and anthropology.
The title of the book references Roland Barthes’ philosophical work
Fragments d’un discours amoureux (Fragments of a Lover’s Discourse).
